EVA has many advantages over rubber. EVA is the most efficient hard wearing thermal covering It is demonstrably more effi cient than rubber or reconstituted rubber sheets as it eliminates all under floor cold from entering the stall. EVA has a surface softness to reduce scraped hooks, long life and ease of handling and they are 2 to 4 degrees warmer than any conventional bedding. 40 % of the coldness in a stable comes up through the fl oor (20% through the walls).The combination of a cold floor and metal shoes compounds the degree of cold experienced by the horse in it’s lower limbs. Like rubber or reconstituted rubber sheets EVA cannot absorb urine so tends not to smell. EVA Mats are VERY LIGHT and easy to handle, easy to cut to the exact stall shape (using a sharp utility knife or a Stanley knife) and should be abutted tight to each other and against the stall walls. They can be laid on any prepared flat surface. The surface must be fl at so mats are level with each other then they will not move or lift. They have no draining properties so a small bed of shavings like lime, sawdust, wood shavings is necessary to coat faeces and mop up urine. If you currently deep-bed your stalls you can expect to cut your bedding needs back to about 10% of what they were.
